OUR MISSION IS TO BRING YOU THE FINEST THE SEA HAS TO OFFER
EU Organic Certified
Finisterra is EU Organic Certified since November 2016.
Organic farming is an agricultural method that aims to produce food using natural substances and processes. This means that organic farming and aquaculture have a limited environmental impact because it encourages:
- the responsible use of energy and natural resources;
- the preservation of biodiversity;
- the preservation of regional ecological balances;
- enhancement of soil fertility;
- maintenance of water quality.
In addition, organic farming rules encourage a high standard of animal welfare and require farmers to meet specific behavioral needs of animals.
European Union regulations on organic farming are designed to provide a clear framework for the production of organic goods across the whole of the EU. This is to satisfy consumer demand for trustworthy organic products whilst providing a fair marketplace for producers, distributors, and marketers.
ASC Farm Certified, and ASC CoC Certified
In 2020, Finisterra obtained the ASC Farm and ASC Chain Of Custody certifications, becoming the first and only ASC Farm Certified mussel producer in continental Europe.
ASC Farm Standards set strict requirements for responsible aquaculture farming that encourage seafood producers to minimize the key environmental and social impacts of aquaculture.
ASC certification provides farms with clear guidelines to follow, and helps protect our activities regarding:
- Wild seed collection
- Social conflicts
Mussels capture and retain CO2 from the sea – converting it into Calcium Carbonate (CaCo3) for formation of their shells. 168g of CO2 permanently captured for every kilo of adult mussels.
